Senator Richard T. Moore is now serving his seventh term in the Massachusetts Senate representing 14 communities in Southern Worcester County. He is the Senate Chair of the Legislature’s influential Joint Committee on Health Care Financing and is constantly in the forefront of issues affecting the health of the people of Massachusetts. His imprint can be found on nearly every piece of health care legislation enacted in Massachusetts since 1999 including the landmark 2006 Massachusetts Health Care Reform law that has expanded access to health care to more than 97% of Massachusetts residents.
Currently, the Senator is the President of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), a post he was elected to by the nation’s thousands of state legislators. He also serves as co-chair of the NCSL’s Health Information Technology Champions (HITCh) Project and is an active member of the National Governor’s Association State e-Health Initiative – both aimed at encouraging the broader use of health information technology across the nation.
Prior to his service in the Senate, Senator Moore was a three-term Hopedale selectman, nine term state representative, and a former Associate Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the Clinton Administration (1994-1996).
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Clark University (Worcester, MA) and a master’s degree in student personnel administration from Colgate University (Hamilton, NY), and is the recipient of two honorary degrees – a doctorate of science degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and a doctor of humane letters degree from the New England College of Optometry.
